Lissa Jones-Lofgren
as Executive Director

The Shannon Leadership Institute (SLI) is proud to announce the appointment of Lissa Jones-Lofgren as its new Executive Director. A distinguished executive leader, organizational behaviorist, and fractional CEO, Lissa brings deep experience in guiding organizations through transformation and fostering cultures rooted in equity, inclusion, and purpose.

With a leadership philosophy centered on aligning mission with strategy, Lissa has led numerous organizations through growth and transition, empowering individuals and institutions to embed their values into meaningful action. Her expertise in governance, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement makes her uniquely suited to carry forward the legacy of SLI while advancing its vision of a vibrant, values-driven leadership network.

“From the very first conversation with Lissa, it was clear she carries the kind of wisdom, heart, and conviction that Shannon needs in this moment,” said Amanda Ziebell Mawanda, co-chair of the Shannon Institute board of directors. “Her leadership is grounded in deep values and experience, and she brings both clarity and care to everything she touches. I truly believe Lissa is the leader who can honor the legacy of Shannon while boldly guiding it into its next chapter.”

Lissa is also the host of the acclaimed podcast Black Market Reads, which amplifies the voices of Black authors, and is a sought-after speaker, facilitator, and coach.

In addition to leading the organization, Lissa will serve as the facilitator for one of SLI’s annual cohorts, providing space, guidance, and tools for leaders to explore their purpose, align with their core values, and drive transformational change. Her community-centered approach and commitment to inclusive leadership will strengthen SLI’s impact across sectors and regions.

ABOUT THE SHANNON LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

The Shannon Leadership Institute offers experienced, community-focused leaders the time, space, and tools to reflect on their purpose, recharge their energy, and lead organizations and communities with clarity, integrity, and impact. Through a values-driven, cohort-based approach, the institute helps participants align their personal and professional lives to catalyze lasting, transformational change. 

Founded in 1992 as the Institute for Renewing Community Leadership under the Minnesota Council of Foundations, the organization was established under the leadership of James P. Shannon, who was then the head of the General Mills Foundation, and was initially directed by Ronnie Brooks. In 2002, it joined the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation and was renamed the James P. Shannon Leadership Institute in honor of Shannon’s values and commitment to community service. In 2021, the Shannon Leadership Institute became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
