The Shannon Experience

Purpose. Values. Renewed Leadership.

The Shannon Leadership Institute is designed for community-serving leaders who are ready to reflect, refocus, and lead with greater intention. In a structured, challenging, and supportive environment, participants explore the purpose of their work, clarify the values they want their leadership to embody, and develop practices that strengthen their effectiveness, energy, and sense of alignment.

A Cohort That Deepens the Work

Each Shannon cohort includes approximately twenty leaders who move through the full program together. Over time, the cohort becomes a trusted space for reflection, challenge, connection, and growth.

Cohorts are intentionally diverse across race, culture, gender, discipline, sector, experience, and perspective. Participants come from fields including philanthropy, arts and culture, health, education, environment, government, business, and community leadership. This diversity is central to the experience. Participants are strengthened not only by their own reflection, but by the wisdom, perspective, and presence of others.

Each cohort is guided by an experienced facilitator who accompanies the group throughout the year. Additional faculty may join at key moments to deepen particular elements of the experience. Together, the program design creates space for both meaningful shared learning and individual reflection.

Learning That Engages the Whole Leader

Shannon’s programming is designed to engage mind, body, and spirit. Through thoughtfully designed experiences, participants are invited to reflect more deeply, expand their understanding of themselves, and grow in courage, clarity, and capacity.

Rather than relying on one-way instruction, the Institute uses creative and experiential approaches that help leaders explore the questions that matter most: how they lead, what grounds them, what sustains them, and what their communities need from them now.

Space Away to See More Clearly

A vital part of the Shannon experience is stepping outside the pace and pressures of everyday leadership. Gatherings take place in settings that allow participants to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves and their aspirations.

The rhythm of the program, along with the variety of settings in which it unfolds, gives leaders the space they need to examine their leadership style, sharpen their focus, and imagine what is next with greater clarity.

Who Participates

Shannon is designed for experienced leaders with a strong commitment to public and community life. Participants come from nonprofit and civic organizations, government, philanthropy, and business, united by a shared desire for renewal and a deeper alignment between who they are and how they lead.

They come to Shannon not simply to build skills, but to restore purpose, strengthen effectiveness, and return to their work with renewed creativity, vitality, and commitment.
